UPDATE as of September 15, 2020, SPECIAL TEMPORARY COVID - 19 RESTRICTIONS
From Nassau County Board of County Commissioners
MASK MANDATE EXTENDED 30 DAYS
At the last special meeting of the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners, Health Director, Dr. Eugenia Seidel, provided an update on COVID-19 which included case counts, current hospitalizations and COVID related deaths. She indicated that the positivity rate in Nassau County is declining and she attributed it to all mitigation factors taking place including physical distancing, hand sanitizing, and wearing masks. She is urging residents to continue use of masks in close settings where social distancing isn't possible.
The Board discussed the current Executive Order mandating masks at indoor business establishments which was set to expire today. After some discussion, it was determined that the Board would extend the mask mandate an additional 30 days. As a result, the Board approved Executive Order No. 22, extending the mandate through September 25, 2020.
We are sorry for any inconvenience or discomfort this may cause for our client families. Thank you for your patience.
Due to Federal, State & Local restrictions on social gathering we are unfortunately having to regulate group gatherings. The latest restriction according to the PHASE II allow for indoor spaces to operate at half capacity. Currently a Temporary Nassau County Ordinance requires those attending inside our chapel to wear face masks or other approved face covering. Graveside funerals (unless extremely large) should be able to be attended by most, if not all, family and friends so long as family groups and other individuals maintain appropriate social distancing.
For now, all our employees will wear masks to better protect those we serve. While it it certainly possible to accommodate larger groups at graveside ceremonies where appropriate social distancing can be achieved, we would encourage those attending to also wear a mask. We do require that all who enter either our offices or chapel wear a mask. We consider your well-being as well the public health of our community to be of the utmost importance.
We are not the only funeral providers affected by these restrictions - the National Cemeteries, for instance, are allowing only 10 family members and/or guest at ceremonies. They will also allow 10 or fewer to witness a burial from a distance (usually from the road). For now, they will accept NO FLOWERS. They will accommodate future requests for ceremonies after restrictions are lifted - a note here, based on my experience in dealing with national cemeteries and the government in general, there is ALWAYS an enormous backlog when things get going again.
After being completely shut down for several months, all branches of the military services are now proving military funeral honors again for those who qualify. If there ever is an occasion, for whatever reason, that the military cannot provide honor, we have a military bugle and can provide taps and a flag presentation.
We will make sure military veterans get the funeral honors they deserve and are entitled to.
We also have the capability to live stream video or video record any ceremony for playback on our website.
So, for now, please know that we are honored to be of service to your family and pray that you stay healthy and safe.
