Thomas “Tommy” K. Carter, 73, passed away April 19, 2020 at his Kingsland, GA residence.
Tommy was born in Fernandina Beach, FL and was a life-long resident of the area before moving to Kingsland in January of this year. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Legacy Baptist church where he assisted with security. Tommy retired from Rayonier where he worked as a millwright and was employed for 43 years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved his church. He enjoyed fishing and traveling and loved to play card tricks.
Tommy was predeceased by his first wife, Brenda Bell Carter; his father, Joseph Carter and a brother, Wayne Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Deborah Carter of Kingsland, GA; a son, Joey Carter (Stacy) of Fernandina Beach, FL; daughter, Misty Sherwood, also of Fernandina Beach; step-son, Rick Oliver of Kingsland, GA; two step-daughters, Stacy Dietz (Kevin) of Hilliard, FL and Jaime Hatch (David) of Yulee, FL; his mother, Alberta Carter of Fernandina Beach; a brother, Michael Carter (Sheila) of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Gail Sikes (Jack) and Faye Carter, both of Fernandina Beach; two grandchildren, Elijah Sherwood and Josiah Sherwood; and six step-grandchildren, Courtney Dietz, Savannah Pickren (Colt), Billie Jo Dietz, Lyndsey Hatch, Jacob Hatch and Rylee Hatch.
A private ceremony celebrating Tommy’s life will be held at Green Pine Funeral Home with military honors and Pastor Aaron Bell officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers that memorial donations be made to the Brenda Bell Carter Foundation www.brendaliveson.org.
