Richard "Dick" Henry Obituary

Retired USN Chief Richard “Dick” James Henry went home to be with the Lord and his Savior on May 18, 2021.  Dick was born in Rensselaer, NY on September 27, 1920.  He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Leah Henry, and his beloved wife, June Rosalie Henry of 67 years.

Dick joined the United States Navy in June 1939 at the age of 18 and retired after 20 years of service, only to continue to work another 18 years in civil service. He fought in WWII and was aboard the USS Helena when she was torpedoed during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He fought in numerous campaigns during World War II, to include Operation Torch, which was the US invasion of North Africa under General Patton.

Dick was a very honorable, loyal, inspiring hero, husband and friend to all who knew him. He loved history, gaining knowledge, and “anything on water”. His outlet was walking, which was a time of serenity and socializing along the way.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 24, at the River of Praise Worship Center, 83410 St. Mark Dr., Yulee, FL 32097. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church.  Entombment with full Military Honors will follow at Green Pine Cemetery.

Dick was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Callahan, Florida.  He leaves behind many cherished friends, who will greatly miss him.  His memory will never fade.
