Mariam McGehee Obituary

Miriam Elaine McGehee (Micki), 84, of Yulee, Fl., lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday December 4, 2018 at the Jane & Bill Warner Community Hospice, Fernandina.

She was born September 11, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late John W. and Marie O. Miller.

Micki was a high spirited loquacious person who loved music, dancing and boating.  She obtained her Captain's License from the U. S. Coast Guard and sailed to the Bahamas over thirty times.  Eventually she sailed to the Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos, Grenada and Venezuela.  Micki was a long time member of the Fernandina Sailing Club and the Nassau Sport Fishing Association.

As an entrepreneur, she obtained, moved and sold several homes from MARTA in Atlanta.

She participated in the music industry with RCA under Chet Atkins.  Once, back stage at the Grand Ole Opry Loretta Lynn told her to “Go on out there and sang a song”.  To which she responded “I don't know if I remember all the words”.  Loretta said, “It don't matter, they won't know any way”.  Micki hesitated and missed her chance.  She is probably the only one that Elvis Presley gave a Ford Mustang to.   Needless to say Micki loved the music & entertainment industry.

She also traveled coast to coast with her former husband Richard Beberman in service to FEMA.  Micki loved telling her stories of experiences.  Most often leaving the listener in outright laughter.

Mrs McGehee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Beberman and her son Patrick A. Mooney.

She leaves behind her husband Claude S. McGehee, Jr. and her son James E. Mooney.

She will be sorely missed.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday December 18, 2018 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with Jackie Hayes officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until the hour of service.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
