Walter Thomas Obituary

Walter Fletcher Thomas passed away Friday evening April 4, 2025 at Community Hospice of Fernandina Beach, Fl., after a long and arduous journey with a rare, debilitating neurological disease.

Strong and healthy, Wally beat the predicted life expectancy of eight years and lived for ten years, cared for by his ever loving wife Pami, as well as a multitude of caring relatives and friends, most notably Molly Daniels.

Born in Savannah, Georgia on August 11, 1955 to Mark Wooding Thomas and Billie Jewel Fletcher Thomas. Wally is survived by 2 brothers Mark (Marion) and William, (Cathy) and 3 Nieces Francis, Katherine, Lauren. 2 step sons Larry (Monica) Dalton and Bryan (Tracy) Dalton. 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

After growing up in Savannah, Wally entered the U.S.Navy in 1975 where he learned to be an air traffic controller. His career took them to Pensacola, Fl. and Puerto Rico then back to Jacksonville where they settled in Fernandina Beach. Wally retired in 2005.

Pami and Wally traveled frequently. While living in Fernandina Beach, one could often see Wally passionately peddling his bicycle any and everywhere, frequently to pursue his other hobby: fishing. People would toot their horns and he would flash his bright smile and wave or stop for a chat and a beer. Wally loved their friends. Pami and Wally had a most beautiful symbiosis and the depth of their love will always be regarded as the most absolute. One could not possibly think of one without thinking of the other. The couple made a thousand friends with beautiful memories and shared experiences. They inspired the best in all of those in their lives. We are blessed for having shared his remarkable, warm soul. He made this a brighter world for having been touched by his graceful inspiration. Rest in peace, Wally and Thank you.

Celebration of life will be at Walkers Landing, Amelia Island Plantation on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 6-8pm.
