Our community sadly lost a pillar on Thursday April 20, 2023 when Vernon W. Jones, Sr. passed away from an ongoing illness. He was a member of the Amelia Masonic Lodge #47 for 39 years. He and his wife were attendees at Community Baptist Church.

Vernon spent 45 years as a Millright at West Rock. He loved working to refurbish his old truck, working in his yard, and traveling with his wife, daughter, and great granddaughter. He made weekly trips to visit his son and grandsons. He loved a good laugh and his ice cream. Vernon’s spiritual faith throughout his adult life was strong.  Even during his last moments, he was testifying his love for the LORD. This will be his biggest legacy.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Rebecca M. Jones of 40 years; two sons, Vernon W. Jones, Jr. (Jody), William M. Jones (wife, Jennifer); daughters, Brenda D. Sapp, Kellie Deroot; five grandchildren, Myles Breutzemann, Halie Coulcci, Tyler Jones, Tanner Jones, and Coy Davis; and great-granddaughter, Mylie Breutzmann; sisters, Sandra Cooner (Marvin) and Leecie Dennard.

Vernon was preceded in death by his Father, Willie Jones; his mother, Willie Mae Jones; his brother, Shelton Jones; grandson, Michael Sharpe.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastors Carl Lindsay and Fred Norman officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home Sunday.
