Susanne Schlaifer Obituary

Susanne Nance Schlaifer, 76, of Amelia Island, FL, passed away on September 2, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother, she was the heart of her family.

Susanne was born on September 15, 1943 in Atlanta, GA to Evander Theodore Nance, Jr., and Agnes Nance (Glenn) and was raised in Atlanta and Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, before settling in the Washington, DC area, where she met her future husband, Roger L. Schlaifer. The couple married in 1971, and returned to the Atlanta area to start a business and raise a family. In 1973, Susanne and Roger founded advertising agency, Schlaifer Nance & Co., Inc., where Susanne served as Vice President. Schlaifer Nance & Co. was responsible for designing and marketing some of the most iconic and sought-after products of a generation, including Cabbage Patch Kids. Susanne and Roger resided in Atlanta for over 40 years until their retirement to Amelia Island, FL. A woman of many talents, with a keen eye for design and a love of the right word, Susanne instilled in her children and grandchildren a deep appreciation of nature, literature, history, and art. She was active in many organizations in her community, including the Georgia Trust for Historical Preservation, The Temple in Atlanta, and, later in life, by earning her Master Gardener certification. Above all, Susanne cherished her role of wife, mother, and Nana. Susanne leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Roger Schlaifer; daughters Jessica Frankel (Michael) and Stephanie Schlaifer (Arny Nadler); grandchildren Justin, Jordan, and Julia Frankel; brothers Charles Nance and Michael Nance (Melanie); nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends; all of whom she loved dearly. She will be profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to The Temple (Atlanta, GA) https://www.the-temple.org/payment.php  or the University of Florida Master Gardener program https://www.uff.ufl.edu/giving-opportunities/022295-florida-master-gardener-legacy-fund.
