Susan Belz Obituary

Beloved wife, cherished mother and adored “nanny,” Susan Waters Belz of Fernandina Beach passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12 with her husband of 64 years, Charles, by her side.

Born May 9,1933 in Abington, Pennsylvania to Edgar and Dorothy Waters. She grew up in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania and graduated from Cheltenham High School.

In 1951, she met her husband whom she affectionally called “Ding.” A true love story, Sue and Charlie were best friends and went on to marry, raise a family and travel the world together over the next 70 years.

An avid Phillies fan, Sue was a season ticket holder until moving to Fernandina Beach in 1990. She enjoyed playing bridge and achieved the status of Life Master Bridge Player. She volunteered her time at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital rocking babies in the neonatal unit as well as served a greeter at Baptist Nassau. She also used her love for knitting to serve her community, knitting blankets and sweaters for children in need.

A loving mother and nanny, she loved spending time with her family. Dinners at Sue and Charlie’s house were always a special occasion. She was a fantastic cook who showered her children and grandchildren with love and all of their favorite dishes.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Belz of Fernandina Beach; children: Linda (Gary) Harter of Egg Harbor Twp., New Jersey, Robert (Sheryl) Belz of Callahan, Florida, Thomas (Kassi) Belz of Saint  Johns, Florida; grandchildren: Bryan (Kacey) Chism, Megan Chism, Chelsea (John) Hope, TJ & Eli Belz, Robbie, Ryan & Ricky Belz; and great grandchildren: Jackson, Lyla, Savannah, Parker and Amelia.

Funeral services for Sue will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church in downtown Fernandina Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital.
