Stephen Hickman Obituary

Stephen M. Hickman
June 17, 1947 – November 15, 2024

Stephen M. Hickman, 77, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born on June 17, 1947, in Benton, Illinois, Steve graduated from St. Louis University and built a successful career as an attorney. He was a long-time member of the Illinois State Bar Association and was known for his professionalism and dedication. Before his legal career, Steve served honorably in the United States Army, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and service.

On December 29, 1980, Steve married Nancy, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years. Nancy preceded him in death on August 24, 2024, and Steve remained deeply devoted to her memory.

Steve had a passion for fishing and spent countless hours on the water, enjoying the tranquility and camaraderie it brought. He was also an avid reader and was dedicated to reading and literacy, believing in the importance of books in expanding knowledge and enriching lives. The Nassau County Public Library in Fernandina Beach, Florida, was his favorite charity, and donations made in his memory will help support its mission.

Steve was a supportive and active member of the sober community in Nassau County, Florida, where he helped others with care and understanding.

A private memorial celebration will be held at a later date, yet to be determined.

Many looked up to Steve for his guidance, wisdom, and unwavering love. His steady presence in our lives meant more than words can express. His kindness, integrity, and generosity touched all who knew him, and he will forever be remembered with love and gratitude.

Steve’s life was one of great meaning, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his brother, Robert Hickman, of Lynchburg, Virginia, along with many loving friends and neighbors who were an important part of his life.
