William Shelton Jones, Lt., NCSO, Ret., peacefully passed on to his Heavenly Home at the age of 70 at his Yulee residence.
Lt. Jones was a native and life-long resident of Nassau County. He was born in Fernandina Beach and lived in the Old Town area for many years and most recently residing in Yulee.
He retired as a Lieutenant with 25 years of service with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps when he was 17 years old having to get his mother’s written permission as he was under the age of consent. As a man of the Baptist Faith, he took the Lord’s call to action and His commandments seriously.
Shelton loved helping people. It was his passion. There are numerous accounts of him helping those in need. He loved his family and always enjoyed eating-out in restaurants.
He was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Willie Mae Jones; brothers, Roland Jones, Howard Jones, Otis Jones and Jimmie Lee Knight; and a sister, Gladys Bly.
Survivors include a brother, Vernon Jones (Becky) of Yulee; sisters, Sandra Cooner (Marvin) of Coonerville and Leecie Dennard of Nassauville; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
A Celebration of Shelton’s life will be held from the graveside at Green Pine Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, with Pastor Carl Lindsey and Marvin Cooner officiating. Full Honors will be provided by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
