Sandra Lucy McGovern Jones

Sandra Lucy McGovern Jones passed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Lucy was born in Coffee County, Georgia, on the 14th day of February, 1942. She attended school in Broxton, Georgia, Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Macon, Georgia. She graduated from Hughes Vocational High School in Macon with the class of 1960.

Upon graduation, she married James Arthur Jones in June, 1960. James and Lucy returned to Nassau County, Florida, where they lived happily for the next 60 years. Lucy worked at Winn Dixie, Florida National Bank, and Orange Lake Marketing Company, where she made many lasting friendships.

Lucy leaves behind her husband of 60 years and her three daughters, Terri D. Gilmore of Harriet’s Bluff in Camden County, Georgia, Sherri D. Gilder (Jerry Gilder) of Yulee, and Erin Companion (Robert T. Companion) of Yulee. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Richard Gilmore Jr., Ashlyn Stroud, Noah Gilder, Kayla Companion, and Caden Companion, as well as two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joyce White of Macon, GA and Lola Music of Fernandina Beach.

Lucy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Jefferson McGovern, and her mother, Maude Conley McGovern, her sisters, Estelle Boone, Christine McGovern, Ann Laura Geiger, and Fanny Geiger, brothers Willy McGovern, Hubert McGovern, Terry McGovern, Walt McGovern, Lonnie McGovern, and Dave McGovern, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, September 29th, at Green Pine Funeral Home in Yulee between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, September 30th, at 12:00 noon with Pastor John Eason officiating.  Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery.
