Robert "Freddy" Mosley went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Jacksonville on January 4, 1937 to Horace and Ida Mae Mosley, Freddy grew up in Jacksonville and joined the Navy at 18, spending four years serving his country. After an honorable discharge, he spent 33 years working for Civil Service Airworks.
On July 15, 1958 he married Virginia Dowd, and the couple had two daughters, Renee and Rhonda. A man of deep faith and conviction, Freddy was a leader in local churches as well as a vocalist in The Southlanders, a gospel ensemble that toured extensively in the 1960s. He devoted his life to his family and was active in the lives of his daughters and their children: he was proud to be "Papa" to eight grandchildren. A warm and welcoming presence, Freddy was the center of life at family gatherings, filling the room with his booming laugh and always ready with a story from his time in the Navy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Charlotte Mosley and Ann Mosley Barnhardt. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia, his daughters, Renee, spouse Steve, and Rhonda, spouse Wes. Also his living siblings, James Mosley, wife Sheryl, and Sandra Turner, spouse Fred. His legacy lives on in the lives of his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
