Michael F. Hursey

Mike Hursey “Big Um” born October 22, 1956 passed away March 15, 2023 at the age of 66.

Mike was born in Phoenix, Arizona and was otherwise a life-long resident of Yulee, Florida.

He started shrimping at the age of seven with his little sister. He was the owner of Big ‘Um, Inc. for 40 years.

Mike was predeceased by a brother, Terrance Hursey and a sister, Cheryl Hursey.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hursey; son, Michael P. Hursey and his former wife, Chrystal M. Hursey; daughter, Elizabeth C. Hursey and her husband, Daniel C. Altamirano; three grandchildren, Kaiden P. Hursey , Adrian Altamirano and Alice Altamirano. Mike is also survived by Robert Jones and many other great friends and family.

He loved gardening, reading books, traveling, working, running his company, playing with his grandchildren, playing with his puppy Roo, and learning new things. Mike was a strong determined man with so much life in him. But God had other plans and called him home to heaven. His family would describe him as strong, brave, honorable, caring, loving, and so many other good things. For the memories we all have of him, he will not be forgotten. But his final message to the world was, " Never Give Up" and for that he did not. Gone but not forgotten, forever in our hearts. Until we meet again.

A date and time for his remembrance ceremony has not yet been determined.
