Mary Frederick Schloemer Clemmons (“Mary Fred”), a resident of Yulee, FL, died Friday, February 28, 2025, with her sons Charles (“Chuck”) and Kurt by her side. She was born in Louisville, KY, on February 26, 1946, to Charles Edward and Clare Ayers Schloemer. She was raised in Decatur, GA, Bunkie, LA, and Natchez, MS. She graduated from Natchez-Adams High School and the University of Mississippi.
She was married to Harmon (“H.L.”) Clemmons, Jr. for 51 years until his passing in 2023. They lived in Ocala, FL, for over 30 years, where they raised their two children. Mary Fred was employed by the State of Florida Public School System for 18 years where she finished her career as the Executive Director of Take Stock in Children in Charlotte County, FL. Upon her retirement in 2015, she and H.L. moved to Yulee, FL, to be on the creek.
Mary Fred was a lifelong member of Methodist Churches in Natchez, MS, Ocala, Port Charlotte, and Yulee, FL. Mary Fred was deeply connected to the water. She loved to kayak, swim, and even became a good angler in retirement. She loved ballet and was a skilled dancer. She participated in Girl Scouts for many years. She enjoyed arts and crafts and Tai Chi in her retirement. She loved to play bridge with her dear friends and she was very generous in her volunteer efforts. She volunteered for Nassau County Council on Aging, The Salvation Army, Jacksonville Zoo, and Friends of the Library Fernandina Beach.
Mary Fred was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her brother Brack Schloemer and his wife Kaye, and by her son Charles Clemmons and his wife Sarah, and son Kurt Clemmons. She is also survived by grandsons Noah and Andrew Clemmons.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Yulee Methodist Church located at 86003 Christian Way in Yulee, FL. Visitation will begin at noon prior to the service.
The family is appreciative of the compassionate care provided by the physicians and staff at Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Community Hospice of Fernandina Beach, FL. Mary Fred would appreciate any donations made in her memory to Take Stock in Children, Salvation Army, Yulee Methodist Church, and Nassau County Council on Aging.
