Mark Smith Obituary

 

 

Mark T. Smith, MSGT, USAF, Ret., passed away Sunday evening, February 7, 2021 in Yulee, FL at the age of 57.

MSGT Mark Smith was born in Muncie, IN and moved to Yulee in 2007 from Travis Air Force Base, CA.

He had a highly decorated career of 23 years with the U. S. Air Force retiring as a Master Sergeant.  During his career he served as an Aircrew Instructor, Aerospace Maintenance Journeyman and Flight Engineer.  He received the following decorations, medals and ribbons for his exemplary service:  Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Readiness Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, AF Longevity Service, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and AF Training Ribbon.  He loved and enjoyed his career in the Air Force.

He graduated from Lima Tech, ITT Tech and Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Mark was predeceased by a sister, Rose Mary Stalling.

Survivors include:  His loving wife of 28 years, Lori A. Smith of Yulee, FL; his two sons, Joshua R. Smith and Jacob Evan Smith, both of Yulee; his parents, Thomas E. and Marjorie R. Smith of Palm Bay, FL; three brothers and sisters in law, Michael and Sandra Smith of Melbourne Village, FL, Andrew and Robyn Smith of West Melbourne, FL, and Patrick and Cathy Smith, also of West Melbourne; a sister and brother in law, Kathleen and John Sherepita of West Palm Beach, FL; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark was a devoted, loving husband and father. He was always willing to help anyone in need.  He loved riding his motorcycle and taking trips in his motorhome as well as working on cars, computers, and anything electrical.

There will be a memorial service in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, with Rev. John Gallman officiating.  Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to either Catholic Charities – Camp I Am Special at 235 Marywood Dr. St. Johns, FL 32259, or Northeast Florida Advocates for Autism and Related Disabilities at 97361 Pirates Point Rd., Yulee, FL 32097.
