Mark Alan Abernethy, Sr., 65, decided it was time to go on Aug. 20th 2022, with his children by his side after a battle with cancer. Born March 22nd, 1957 to Frank Abernethy, Sr. and Nancy Petty Abernethy Thornton.
Dad tried to live his life as a good man and more often than not he succeeded. He was a welder by trade and an avid fan of the Jaguars and lover of music, Neil Young in particular. Dad was a cub scout den leader and little league coach. Win or lose he was always proud of his kids be they Giants or later Orioles. He was especially proud of his work with the Special Olympics and the Dorcas Drake Toy Drive.
He is survived by his children, Mark Abernethy, Jr., Jeremy Abernethy, and Samantha Abernethy; his sisters, Susan (Ken) Abernethy Simpson and Valerie (Rusty) Abernethy Elwood along with many nieces and nephews. He will be welcomed to the hereafter by Granny, Granddaddy, Uncle Frank, Michelle and countless others.
As a final message he urged us to legalize marijuana as soon as we can and was a little upset he won’t be here to see it.
An announcement concerning his Celebration of Life will be forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Nassau Humane Society (nassauhumane.org), 639 Airport Rd, Fernandina FL, 32034
