Mari Margret passed away, Friday morning, January 21, 2021 at her Fernandina Beach residence.
Mari was born in Detroit, MI and moved to Fernandina Beach from Atlanta in 1997. She graduated from the Atlanta College of Art and taught at the Herron School of Art & Design in Indianapolis, IN. She also taught art classes in Fernandina Beach. She was a master of oil painting and serigraphy. Hundreds of her numbered prints are displayed in public and private galleries throughout the United States.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, J. R. Burt of Fernandina Beach, FL; her brother and sister in law, David and Ann Maltby of Greenville, SC; two nephews, Steven Maltby and David Maltby, Jr., and many loving and loyal friends.
Mari was such a huge presence in so many people’s lives and was so unassuming and humble. She was fiercely independent and genuine, without pretense. She was so generous in all aspects of life and was a devoted wife and friend beyond compare. Mari was a gentle fighter for justice and knew how to live and how to love.
She loved animals and would prefer that memorial donations be made to the Nassau Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers.
