Lessie Mae Mosher, loving wife and mother and longtime resident (37 years) of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on July 15th 2026 from complications following a long illness. Lessie was a courageous, strong, independent, intelligent woman who will be dearly missed.

When Lessie moved from North Carolina following high school to work as a secretary for the CIA she had no idea she would meet a young sailor from upstate New York on a dancefloor in Washington DC.  As they were dancing, he asked her what her sign was. “Gemini.” “Me too!” he said.  “So, that would be May or June. What Month?” “May.” “Me too!” he said. “What date?” “The 23.” Surprised he said “Me too.” At which time she looked at him with a complete lack of trust. “What year?” He asked. “1938.” Shocked he said “Me too.” She made him show her his ID.  They were later married and thus began their 68-year adventure. During that time, they moved to Jacksonville, FL, Binghamton, NY, Mars, PA, St. Charles, MO, Hackettstown, NJ and finally landed in Fernandina Beach.

Two things were constant during all these moves: Activity in church and holding various jobs. She was a secretary for the CIA, a legal secretary for several attorneys, trained to become a paralegal, was Co-owner with her husband of a business in New Jersey called Captain Craft Paint & Wallpaper, worked for Nassau County Building and Zoning for many years as a secretary and Co-owner with her husband of The Sign Shoppe, Inc. in Fernandina Beach. Following her retirement from her county position Nassau County proclaimed a day in her honor.

At the churches she attended she was a choir member, choir director, pianist, member of various trio groups, Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, nursery attendant, member of the clown ministry and bus driver.  They also hosted Bible Studies in their home.

Miss Lessie is survived by her husband Edwin T. Mosher, 11/6/1957 as well as three daughters: Sherrie D Jones (Reginald) Screven, GA, Karen A Harden (Anthony), Barnwell, SC and Fernandina Beach, FL and Stephanie L Newberry, Yulee, FL. Grand children: Jessica Faulkner (John), Reginald Jones II (Brianna), Edwin Jones (Brittany) and Douglas Newberry. As well as her great grandchildren: Julie Jones (Shayla), Abagayle Faulkner, Chase Faulkner, Cecilia Jones, Edwin Jones II and Sister Viola Campbell and many Nieces and Nephews

She was greeted in heaven by: Jesus and Father, George Lattie Stephens, Mother, Zula Weathers Stephens, granddaughter Natalie Rea Harden, granddaughter Lynea Harden, Sister Nita Burns, Sister Grace, Sister Mary Wolgamoth a baby brother and her Son-In-Law Douglas E Newberry.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist of Fernandina Beach 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, with Rev. Frank Camarotti officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church.  Interment will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
