John Ramsey Obituary

Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) John L. Ramsey
Fernandina Beach, Florida | Age 92

Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) John L. Ramsey, 92, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by love. He leaves behind a life marked by service, friendship, and a steadfast spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

Born in Forest Hill, West Virginia, John was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Chessie Davidson Ramsey, and his brothers, Marshall and David. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Barbara Ramsey, 91, and his son, Thomas.

John proudly served his country for over 30 years in the United States Air Force. His career spanned the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and took him around the world, from Morocco and France to Italy, Norway, Germany, and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Known for his leadership, integrity, and quiet humor, he earned the respect of those who served alongside him and the lifelong gratitude of those he mentored.

After retiring from the military, John followed his other great passion: golf. A proud member of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA), he competed and taught the game he loved, holding two course records, six holes-in-one, and championship titles on three continents.

John’s greatest joy came from the simple things. He loved time with friends, his three loyal dogs and one mischievous cat, an afternoon nap, and a box of Fudge Stripe cookies within reach.

He will be remembered for his devotion to family and country, his quiet wit, his competitive spirit, and his generous heart.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate teams at Baptist Nassau Hospital, Community Hospice, Lakeside Assisted Living, and Green Pine Funeral Home, all in Fernandina Beach, for their exceptional care and kindness.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach on Thursday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m.  A reception will follow in Burns Hall.

Final interment with full military honors will take place at the Jacksonville National Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, November 4, at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s memory to a local animal shelter or veterans’ organization of your choice.

God Bless America.
