Ruth (Jean) Miles, 83, of Yulee, Florida, passed away on February 8, 2025, in the presence of family and while receiving palliative care in the comfort of her daughter’s home.
Jean was born February 10, 1941 in Ludowici, Georgia, the daughter of Jeanie Strickland and Hughe Carver. Jean and her mother later moved to St Augustine, Florida, where Jean graduated from high school and developed her great love of the ocean.
Jean married Clifford Eugene Miles on February 11, 1960 in Charlton County, Georgia, but they resided in Nassau County, Florida for most of their life together. They raised four children and spent much of their spare time at their second home in Palatka, Florida. They were married for 39 years, separated by Clifford’s death on August 1, 1999.
Jean’s first job was working at Marineland. She loved it there, and often visited the park with her daughter’s family throughout her life. She later worked for a number of local businesses and eventually retired after many years with Five Points Liquor Store.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jean. She took her coffee black, and by the pot and often indulged her sweet tooth. She especially loved doting on her beloved pets, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing her many plants, and watching over the birds frequenting her many baths and feeders.
Jean’s heart was always warm, her words uncommonly kind, and her presence peaceful.
Preceding Jean in death are her husband, Clifford Miles; parents, Jeanie Strickland and Hughe Carver, and stepfather, Archie Strickland.
Remaining to cherish Jean’s memory are her children, Pam Graham (Jimmy Graham), Cliff Miles Jr (Brenda Miles), Mechelle Lee (Joseph Lee), Debbie Buscaino (Victor Buscaino); grandchildren, Johnny Herndon, Paul Fine, Ashley Dial (Karl Dial), Kierstan Lee (D.J. Boyce), Justin Fine, Bo Waas, Jessica Carter (Jared Carter), Kaitlyn Lee, Kaylee Waas; great-grandchildren, Ethan Fine, Annabel Verdery, Rilynn Dial, Magnolia Carter, Judson Carter, Gavin Dial; Uncle, John Shope; nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Green Pine Cemetery.
