James Luther Bennett, 69, of Yulee passed away July 26, 2020 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
Mr. Bennett was born August 14, 1950 in Jacksonville, FL to Mary G. Bennett and the late James E. Bennett. He resided in Melbourne, FL until 1978 when he and his family moved to Yulee, FL. He was Owner of Jim Bennett’s Construction and later Owner/Operator of Jim Bennett’s Trucking. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time out on the boat. His greatest past time was coaching his daughters’ softball teams throughout the years. His impact on the girls that he coached is immeasurable. His love and commitment to the girls that he coached has continued throughout the years. He considered each and every one his own. He was hard on them, but they wouldn’t have had it any other way. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time in Satsuma, FL at he and his wife’s second home on the water. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication and love.
James is predeceased by his father James E. Bennett and his brother, Darrell G. “Glenn” Bennett. He is survived by his soul mate and wife of 50 years, Verna L. Bennett; his daughters Tammy White (Jeff), of Bell, FL and Tonya Thornton (Henry) of Yulee, FL. His grandchildren James B “Bradley” Thornton (Brittany) and Rebecca Thornton of Yulee; Madison White, Matthew White and Megan White, all of Bell, FL. He had one great granddaughter, Blakely Olivia Thornton. He is also survived by his mother, Mary G. “Gertrude” Bennett of Satsuma; sisters Sheron Judy, Charlotte, NC and Julie Landrum, Satsuma, FL and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.
At this time, there are no services planned. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
