Obituary

James Riley Hickox, 91, of Yulee passed away Friday morning, August 25, 2023.

Mr. Hickox was born December 9, 1931, the son of Joseph and Viola Hickox, in Pierce County, GA and moved to Fernandina Beach 72 years ago and to Yulee 53 years ago.

He was a member of Yulee Baptist Church and was retired from Container Corporation.

Mr. Hickox was predeceased by a daughter, Marie Evans; and three brothers, Thomas Hickox, Bert Hickox and Wiley Hickox.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Hickox; a son, James Lee Hickox (Eunice); three daughters, Margie Hatton, Melba Hickox and Belinda Peeples (Robbie); three brothers, Middie Hickox (Dana), Robert Hickox and Claude Hickox (Katherine); two sisters, Freida Woodcock (Earl) and Faye Sauls; and many grand and great grandchildren.

Mr. Hickox enjoyed doing mechanic work on cars, camping, gardening and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Sides officiating. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
