Jack D'Amato Obituary

 

Jack J. D’Amato, 85, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away at home on August 31, 2025 in the care, comfort and closeness of his loving family.

Jack was born on February 13, 1940 in Live Oak, Florida. As a 6th generation Floridian, his family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and later to Fernandina Beach, Florida in 1950. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1958 and attended the University of Florida before joining the Army in 1962. 

Jack served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers predominantly in the Middle East. After discharge from the military, he began a 60-year career as a Civil Engineer in which he obtained his P.E. license in both Florida and Texas. Jack held numerous positions and was involved in many projects including working with NASA, JAXPORT and other governmental entities as well as Disney and other firms.

As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, fossiling and hiking. He was also passionate about reading, music and antique collecting. 

Jack is survived by his wife, Judith D’Amato; his daughter, Jacquelyn Blanchard (Daniel); his granddaughters, Calista Blanchard (Bryan) and Avery Blanchard.

Preceding Jack in death were his parents, Jack and Cornelia D’Amato and sister Gail D’Amato.

Jack was a caring husband, a great dad and doted on and adored his granddaughters.  He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his unique sense of humor and his story telling of his adventures.

The family would like to thank those who have expressed their condolences. 

 In keeping with Jack’s wishes, there will be a private family service.
