Gregory J. Bertsch

Gregory J. Bertsch, 81, died peacefully in his home on February 3, 2025, after a long illness.

He retired to Amelia Island from Massachusetts where he had a career as a psychologist.

Born and raised in New York, Greg graduated from Boston College and the University of Vermont.  He specialized in clinical and behavioral work with people with developmental disabilities.  He also contributed to the opening and oversight of a broad array of housing options for this population following the period of deinstitutionalization.

Locally, he was active in clubs supporting his love of remote control flying of airplanes and boats.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Cathy (DeCou), his remaining sister, Judy Ritter; two sons, Gregory Jr. and David and their wives; and four grandchildren, Valerie, Nic, Sam and Aiden.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.  A funeral mass and memorial are planned at St. Michael Catholic Church the week of February 17th
