Eldridge Eugene (Gene) Seymour, 92, passed away April 9th, 2020, at his Yulee, FL home.
Born on November 04, 1927, in Joplin, MO, Gene grew up in Westville, OK. He joined the Marines in August 1945 and served proudly for six years. He then moved to Kansas but was transferred to Georgia in 1966. He worked for Hunter Engineering for over 40 years. He retired but was persuaded by Hunter to come out of retirement to move to Yulee, FL, where he continued to represent Hunter for another 15 years.
Gene never met a stranger, and he always took it a step further. By the time he had met a person and had a conversation, not only did he have a new friend, but he would stay in touch regardless of time or distance. This was a passion of sorts for him. He was always generous with his time or help.
Another passion was auto racing. From racing go-karts to working in the pits at Indianapolis, he loved cars. From the 1960’s until as recently as 2016, Gene could be found in the stands or in the pits at the Indianapolis 500.
Gene was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Betty Rushing Seymour.
He is survived by his two daughters, Valarie Seymour Jones and Alisa Seymour Green; a brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Sandy Seymour; four grandchildren, Erica Mattox Free (Dwain), Dustin Emerson Mattox (Erin), John Foster Williams, and Laura Ashley Meadow; and six great-grandchildren, Rylan, Emalyn, and Aiden Mattox; Riley and Abby Free; and Averi Hardwick.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mr. Seymour's residence at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Wyandotte Nation Foundation, 64700 E. Highway 60, Wyandotte, OK 74370, Attn: Kim Garcia.
