Frederick Marion Shiferdek, Jr. was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 5, 1943, and he passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020 at his home in Yulee, FL at the age of 76.
He was a person who was determined; a person who got things done. Fred had a never-give-up attitude and was a true diamond in the rough. Those who knew him would say he never met a stranger.
He was of veteran of the U. S. Navy and served with the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War and later went on to join the Seafarers International Union, proudly working for Crowley Maritime for over 30 years and retiring at Chief Mate.
After retiring his hobbies included spending time with his family, working in his garden and workshop, reading country western books, and really enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and NASCAR.
He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick Marion Sr. and Lillian Strickland Shiferdek; and by a sister, Marguerite Smallwood.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Eleta Shiferdek; step-sons, Lloyd and Brian; step-daughters, Eleta and Gina; a brother, Perry Shiferdek; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is loved and missed greatly by wife and family.
