Dorothy Elizabeth Jones Brazell, 104, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
She was born in Chester, Florida on September 19, 1921, to Rupert Ferris Jones and Nellie Gertrude Cook Jones.
“Ms. Dot” was a wonderful mother, faithful Christian, talented seamstress, ruthless Rummy player, a dabbler in playing the harmonica and had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Over her lifetime in Fernandina Beach she owned Dot’s Sew Fine on Centre Street, was a store Manager for Bert Maxwell’s Super Dollar Store on Centre Street, was a bank teller at Florida First National Bank, a clerk in the sewing department at TG&Y and then Walmart for many years until her retirement. She was a seamstress for many Fernandina Beach families.
She made Fernandina Beach High School cheerleading uniforms in the 1960’s and 1970’s along with special occasion prom and wedding dresses.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Alex Brazell, daughter Judith Darlene McCoy, son Donald Lindsey Brazell, grandsons James Lewis Brazell, Kevin Alan McCoy and Sean Patrick McCoy.
She is survived by her daughters Dorothy Laraine Burns (Steve), Deborah Gail Mayberry (Phil), Donna Maria Brazell (Jean), Honorary daughter Meredith Li Anton, sons James Eugene Brazell, Thomas Leonard Brazell, and Kenneth Wayne Brazell: grandchildren Thomas Alex Brazell, Joann Patricia Mahle, Bradley Alan Mayberry, Laura Leigh Mayberry, Morgan Lindsay Williams, Ryan Kelly Brazell and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Chester Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 with a reception to follow at 12:30 at First Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach, Florida.
