Daniel Keys Obituary

 

 

Daniel W. Keys, 77, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away Saturday morning, January 15, 2022, at UF Health Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.

Mr. Keys was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Fernandina Beach 11 years ago from Gastonia, NC.

Dan was a member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach where he sang in the choir and assisted with various ministries.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Era.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Wesley Keys and Ester Hadden Keys; a son, Kenneth Keys and a granddaughter, Evelyn Hope Keys.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Annie Keys, of Fernandina Beach, FL; sons, Todd Keys (Judy) of Harpers Ferry, WV and Paul Keys (Rhoda) of Idaho; daughters, Sherri Cabe (David) of York, SC and Angela Harris (Cody) of Belmont, NC; brothers, Wesley Keys, John Keys, Rev. Jim Keys, David Keys and Greg Keys; sisters, Millie Carter, Carol Lane, Suzie DeBus and Becky Self; an uncle, Rev. Charles Hadden; grandchildren, Jeff Keys, Gregory Keys, Zac Cabe, Max Cabe Ally Cabe, Quinlan Keys, Samuel Keys, Alise Harris, Emily Harris, Dalton Harris and Amy Harris; five great grandchildren, Michael, Evie, Wes and Elodie Keys and Remi Cabe; and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was an industrial environmental engineer and held many patents. He was a sought-after consultant in the field of industrial waste. He had a driven, outstanding work ethic and was constantly learning. He was a generous man and considered by those who knew him to be a “man’s man,” one who made friends wherever he went and never met a stranger.  Dan was a talented musician and could play any instrument. He loved traveling, RVing, fishing and was a pilot.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 22, at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
