Dale Deonas, 72, passed from this life Monday, March 21, 2022, at her Fernandina Beach residence while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 20, 1949, in Hickox, GA. Dale was only two when her family moved to Fernandina. She was a member of the 1967 graduating class of Fernandina Beach High School. She and husband, Nick, met in December of 1965, while he was home on leave from military duty in Germany. Nick returned to Germany and they wrote to each other daily. Dale was 16 and Nick was 18 when they met. Nick returned home in April of 1967 and on her eighteenth birthday they married.
They have two children, Jamie (Janet) and Kristy. Also surviving her are her mother, Vera Blocker and her two sisters, Sue Underwood (Lamar) and Jeannie Blocker-Adams. She was predeceased by her father Louie Blocker.
Dale attended American Hairstyling Academy and graduated in 1967. In 1972 she became licensed by the state as an emergency medical technician. In 1980 she graduated from Florida Real Estate Institute and practiced real estate for 35 years as a property manager.
Nick and Dale, in conjunction with Jimmy and Kathy Elliot owned and operated the skating rink at main beach for almost 10 years. Dale enjoyed watching hundreds of children grow up there and the many memories that were made there.
Dale was a long-standing member of the Fernandina Woman’s Club and enjoyed serving. She always had a camera in her hand or at least close by.
She and Nick attended and called The Journey Church home. The pastors and church family meant so much to her, although for the past two years she was unable to attend church due to her illness. She and family were always faithful watching every Sunday at home on TV.
Dale was always ready with a joke, a helping hand, and a desire to make people laugh and feel better. She was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever necessary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, at The Journey Church, 95707 Amelia Concourse, Fernandina Beach with Pastor Darryl Bellar officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.
