Charles George Johnson, 99, passed away March 29, 2026, in Clarksdale, Arizona.
Mr. Johnson was a life-long resident of Fernandina Beach and a member of the Fernandina Beach Church of Christ. He rededicated his life to Christ in the mid 1970’s. He had recently been living with his son, Craig, in Arizona. He loved his family and his church.
Mr. Johnson was a WW II veteran serving with the U. S. Navy. He enlisted March 13, 1944, on his 17th birthday. He served on the USS Winged Arrow, USS LSM-38 and USS LST-931 in the Asiatic Pacific, Guam and the Philippine Islands.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Joan Kraft Johnson and his life-long friend and military buddy, Irving K. Lee (Lee). He was also predeceased by his parents, Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Johnson and Margret “Maggie” Bar Johnson; brother, Anthony Johnson (Margret); and two sisters, Leodon Crowley (Bill) and Shirley McCabe (Bob).
Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Gary C. Johnson, Craig Johnson (Donna), Cheryl DuBose and Carleen Rice (Beryl); nine grandchildren, Michale Johnson, Carolyn Powell, Nathan DuBose, Kyle DuBose, Kurtis Dubose, Alan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Zachary Rice, Mallory Rice; and 11 great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach Saturday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be presented by the U. S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Wounded Warriors (woundedwarriorproject.org), Tunnels To Towers (t2t.org), Gary Sinise Foudation (garysinisefoundation.org) or a personal veteran’s organization.
