Cathy Scott Obituary

Cathy Jean Scott, 66, of Yulee, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones February 13, 2025. She succumbed to a very long and hard fought battle of COPD/COVID.

Cathy was born on October 30, 1958 to Richard and Nancy Twombly in Jacksonville, FL. Cathy had four siblings: Cindy, Candese "Candy", Richard and Stephen. She attended Ribault High School and graduated in 1976. She and Richard "Keith" Rice met one another while working at the Pantry Pride grocery store and married shortly after graduating. During their marriage they had three children, Richard "Keith" Rice Jr, Katrina Marie Faith Rice and Korey Daniel Rice.  They were happily married for 21 years until his sudden death in 1998. By the grace of God, Cathy found love again with William "Blain" Scott. Cathy and Blain went on a date on May 21, 2003 to play bingo, and it was love at first sight. They stayed up until 4AM chatting the night away. Cathy and Blain married May 15, 2004, and had an amazing 20 years of marriage

To know Cathy was to know what unconditional love was, she loved with her all. Her legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. She was the mother to all of her childrens' friends, always treating them as her own. Even with little to spare, Cathy continued even when sick or in pain, she never faltered in caring for her loved ones more than she did for herself. Her life served as a testament to her philosophy that kindness is always free.

Cathy was a social butterfly. She loved watching her game shows, playing bingo, going to the game rooms and spending time with her family. She thrived every time she could get a full cup of tea full of fresh gossip. She would go to the "band room" with Blain and have a jam sesh with his family and go thrift shopping with her daughter. Cathy rekindled her relationship with the Lord this past year, watching sermons from her bed every service.

Cathy loved and adored her three children Keith, Katrina and Korey. She was very proud of every accomplishment her children had, but her heart truly belonged to her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her life. Whether it be a ball game of Bubba's, a band concert for Izzy, a volleyball game of Abbys', or a living room dance session of Emma's, she was always their biggest fan!

Cathy is survived by her husband, William "Blain" Scott; her children Keith Rice (Tena), Katrina McGowan (Patrick), Korey Rice; Step-daughter Ticha Mitchell;  her grandchildren, Elizabeth Rice, Keith Rice, Abagale McGowan, Emmalee McGowan, Samantha Sholar (Aaron), Katey Johnson, William Scott III, Tabitha Mitchell, Johnathan Griffin, Anthony Mitchell and Gabrielle Witney; her Great-grandchildren Kaison, Gracelynn, Louie, Thomas and Herieth; her sisters Cindy Twombly and Candese "Candy" Black (Ronnie); Her brothers Richard Twombly (Melissa) and Stephen Twombly (Regina) and her many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is joined in rest by her first husband, Keith, her mother, Nancy, her father, Richard, her Meme and Papa, along with many other loved ones throughout her life. With a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Cathy's reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
