Buddy “Pops” Massengill, 80, of Fernandina Beach passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020.
Mr. Massengill was born in Morristown, TN and moved to Fernandina Beach in 1999 from Jacksonville, FL. He was involved as an owner with Late Model Stock Car Racing for many years and was inducted into the Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2010.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His life centered around his family and racing. He also loved watching old Westerns on TV on Sundays.
Mr. Massengill was predeceased by his daughter, Hydia Browning; and a great granddaughter, Paisley Alayne Massengill.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Anne Massengill of Fernandina Beach, FL; four sons, Jeffrey Massengill of Yulee, FL; Tony Massengill of Fernandina Beach; Michael Massengill of Jacksonville, FL and Mikey Massengill, also of Fernandina Beach; a daughter, Tammy Troxel of Fernandina Beach; one brother and sister in law, Charles and Jean Massengill of Knoxville, TN; a sister, Jewell Ayscue of Mt Carmel, IL; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Furnel Home.
